En EEUU, la película lidera ampliamente la taquilla y se convirtió en la tercera mejor recaudación de la historia, en un fin de semana.
Sólo el viernes, el film había conseguido US$ 68,3 millones (la quinta mejor marca de la historia) y esa respuesta del público sorprendió hasta a los protagonistas.
21 Jump Street ocupó la segunda posición (21,3 millones) y The Lorax fue tercera (13 millones).
Además, la franquicia marcó un récord: es la primera película que recauda tanto sin ser una secuela. Los máximos ingresos en el fin de semana inicial que un film se encuentra en cartelera lo ostentan Harry Potter y las reliquias de la muerte -parte 2-, con US$ 169,2 millones, y Batman: El caballero oscuro, con US$ 158,4 millones.
